Why an Urban-Only War Journal Now?

Cities are the decisive terrain of this century. An urban-only journal exists to translate history and doctrine into field-ready practice.

Cities are the decisive terrain of this century. An urban-only journal exists to translate history and doctrine into field-ready practice.

More than half the world already lives in cities; by 2050 it will be roughly two-thirds. Urbanization concentrates people, power, infrastructure, and targets—making dense terrain the default battlespace for everything from stability ops to LSCO-adjacent fights.

Yet the literature we rely on is still scattered: a chapter here, a lesson learned there. We’re building a practitioner-first hub that lives only in the city fight—subterranean and verticals, drones and counter-sensors, breaching and clearance, logistics and medical under fire, civilian harm mitigation, and training that mirrors living systems. We stand on the shoulders of classic urban war scholarship—Block by Block—while focusing relentlessly on what units can train and do this week.

What to train next week

  • Terrain walk: identify 5 non-obvious key nodes (power, pumps, bridges, fiber POPs).
  • Two-hour drill: radio/position keeping in GPS-degraded downtown.
  • Red-cell review: list your top 5 OPSEC leaks in urban routines.
